How to Start Making Money in 2025 (for Caribbean Entrepreneurs)

The Caribbean Money Struggle vs. The US Advantage

Unlike in the US and other “developed countries” (the phrase they push, not me -_-), where content creators, freelancers, and investors pretty much have unlimited access to global platforms, us Caribbean-based individuals always end up feeling like it’s all a distant dream:

Limited access to global opportunities – Many business platforms restrict sign-ups based on location.

Payment restrictions – Many platforms don’t support Stripe, or direct international bank transfers.
No easy investing/trading apps – Platforms like Robinhood and Webull aren’t available here.
Content monetization limitations – Most Caribbean islands are not eligible for the YouTube Partner Program.

This has created a business-timid culture here in the Caribbean, where people hesitate to step into entrepreneurship or start their own business. It’s not because they lack talent or lack ideas, but because they haven’t seen others like them succeed. A lot of people here don’t believe making money online is possible, simply because they haven’t seen enough real-life successful examples.

But how and why can 2025 be different? Well, excellent reasons, including:

Online work is growing.
Remote jobs and freelancing are becoming more normal.
AI is creating brand-new money-making opportunities.
More Caribbean entrepreneurs are figuring out how to break through the barriers.

I really wanted this blog post to speak directly to Caribbean entrepreneurs’ struggles such as money barriers and business mindset, but not because I like highlighting our pain. It was so I could then bridge the gap by then focusing on accessible, realistic, practical, proven ways you can make money (no fluff or impossible methods), including beginner-friendly and advanced options so it’s useful for you regardless of where you are in your journey. Wouldn’t you love a life of financial freedom and passive income? It’s all possible.

You don’t need to leave the Caribbean to build a successful business. You don’t need huge capital to get started. You just need access to the right opportunities, and that’s exactly what you’ll find here, so let’s get into it, and let’s get you making money in 2025!

1. Content Creation: The Smart AND Sustainable Way for Caribbean Entrepreneurs

  • The challenge: Most Caribbean countries can’t monetize YouTube ads
  • The solution: Monetization via brand deals, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing instead of just relying on the YouTube Partner Program or AdSense
  • Platforms to start with:
    • YouTube (but focusing on brand deals, coaching, and selling digital products)
    • Instagram & TikTok (leveraging Reels and short-form content)
    • Medium.com (getting paid to write articles)
  • Example: A creator sharing business tips, fitness content, or cooking tutorials can monetize through sponsorships, Patreon, or selling online courses.

2. Digital Products: Sell Knowledge, Not Just Physical Goods

  • There’s a good reason why digital products work better in the Caribbean – no shipping costs, no customs fees, and 100% profit margin!
  • Types of digital products that work for Caribbean entrepreneurs:
    • E-books (e.g., “How to Start a Small Business in Barbados”)
    • Online courses (on any topic you’re knowledgeable about, that people want to learn)
    • Printables & templates (budget planners, Canva templates, social media post templates)
  • Where to sell them:
    • Your own website
    • Etsy (for printables & templates)
    • On platforms like Gumroad, Teachable, Podia, Systeme.io or Kajabi, Rally, Stan Store, Skillshare, Udemy; the list goes on and on with free and paid solutions (for courses, e-books, and memberships)
  • Example: A graphic designer selling Canva templates for small businesses on Etsy. If your resources are limited then you can start by selling on free social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and Facebook, by adding a link to your bio/profile that takes customers to your WhatsApp or a free Google form, and use local payment options. Don’t let 2025 be another year of excuses!

3. Freelancing & Remote Work: Get Paid in USD Without Leaving the Caribbean

  • Freelancing a great option (you can work for US clients and get paid in USD; get other global clients too)
  • Best skills for beginners:
    • Virtual assistant work
    • Copywriting & blogging
    • Graphic design (Canva is beginner-friendly)
    • AI-assisted tasks (AI prompt engineering, ChatGPT services)
  • Where to find work:
    • Fiverr & Upwork (low barrier to entry, but competitive)
    • LinkedIn & cold outreach (higher quality clients, but requires effort)
    • Direct pitching to Caribbean & international businesses (many local businesses need help with marketing, admin, etc.)
  • Example: Offering social media management services. Good niches include restaurants, hotels, gyms, spas, salons, and auto shops.

4. E-Commerce: Selling Beyond the Caribbean

  • The challenge: Limited payment processors and expensive shipping costs
  • The solution:
    • Print-on-demand (POD) (T-shirts, mugs, posters, stickers & more)
    • Selling digital products instead of physical ones
    • Dropshipping (sell products without keeping inventory)
  • Where to sell:
    • Redbubble, Printtful, Gelato, and more options
    • Shopify
    • Etsy (great for digital downloads)
    • Amazon KDP (sell books without printing them yourself)
  • Example: Selling print-on-demand items on Redbubble, with your artwork or graphics you created on platforms like Canva. Redbubble already has customers, a wide variety of POD items so you can choose one or more types to sell in your online store. A bonus tip is to couple this with promoting your store on social media platforms and build your own customer base.

5. Investing & Trading: The Reality for Caribbean Entrepreneurs

  • The problem: Caribbean entrepreneurs don’t have easy access to Robinhood, Webull, or TD Ameritrade
  • The solution:
    • Use platforms that allow international users (e.g., Interactive Brokers, and certain cryptocurrency exchanges)
    • Consider real estate investing (even if you start with fractional ownership)
    • Look into peer-to-peer lending and alternative investments (e.g. Carilend is available in Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad)
  • How to get started with low capital:
    • Investing in ETFs instead of picking individual stocks
    • Learning about forex & crypto (but avoiding scams!)
  • Example: Using Interactive Brokers to invest in the US stock market.

6. AI & Automation: New Opportunities for 2025

  • AI is a huge opportunity, and the best part is, these days there are many low-code or even no-code options (businesses need AI help, and you don’t need coding skills)
  • Ways Caribbean entrepreneurs can make money with AI:
    • Selling AI-generated content (logos, marketing materials)
    • Teaching small businesses how to use AI tools
    • Creating AI-powered chatbots for local businesses
  • Example: Offering an AI-powered chatbot service to small businesses that need customer service automation.

7. Local Businesses & Side Hustles That Work in the Caribbean

  • Not everyone wants to work online, so here are side hustles that work locally:
    • Equipment rentals (lawn mower, portable generators, cooler & ice machines, projectors & screens)
    • Event rentals (chairs, tents, tables, decorations)
    • Food businesses (small food stalls, pop-ups, meal prep, baking, catering) – If there’s one thing that will always sell, especially with “lickrish” people like me around, it’s food!
    • Skill-based services (photography, handyman work, beauty services)
    • Natural beauty & skincare Business – We often overlook how valuable natural beauty products can be, while international brands sell the same ingredients we have access to for high prices! With the right branding, packaging, and certification, you can turn aloe vera, coconut oil, turmeric, and hibiscus into a profitable skincare or haircare business
  • Example: Starting a service-based business is a simple one, and you can start small with a specific niche or part-time. For example, instead of offering general photography, offer a niche of “graduation photos” and you could become the go-to person for those types of photos.

Stop Procrastinating, and Get Started!

  • 2025 is the best time to start making money as a Caribbean entrepreneur
  • Opportunities are growing, and barriers are falling
  • No matter your skill level, there’s something for you
  • Take the first step: Pick ONE method from this list and start today!

In my humble opinion, there’s something remarkable about Caribbean people – people who come from mostly little dots of islands, who somehow have always found a way to make a big impact on the world stage. If you’d like me to do a post on Caribbean creators, entrepreneurs and business owners who have found success, then let me know and I’d be happy to!
